How To Make Create Portable Applications Softwares : Tutorial

You might have seen a lot of Portable versions of different applications like : Portable Yahoo Messenger, Portable Adobe Photoshop and alot more....
Today I am going to tell you how to create your own portable applications. Before starting this tutorial I would like to tell you what are portable applications.
According to Wikipedia definition "A portable application, or portable app for short, is a computer software program that does not need to be installed or copied onto a computer's mass storage device to be executed, running instead from a removable storage device such as a CD-ROM drive, USB flash drive, flash card, or floppy disk"
Lets start :

Requirements :
1) Winrar : You can download it from here.
2) Universal Extractor : Download it from here.

Step1) First take the set up file of the software that you want to make portable. Here I am taking Mozilla Firefox set up file.

Step2) Now install both Winrar and Universal Extractor.

Step3) Now put the set up file in a folder say Gagan. Now right click on the set up file and select UniExtract to Subdir.
Have a look :

Step4) This will extract all the dll files and some folders along with the executable (exe) file. In my case the name of the exe file is setup.exe but it depends upon the software so in your case it will be different. Just copy the whole name along with the extension i.e setup.exe

Step5) Now press Ctrl+A and select all the extracted files and folders and right click on it and select Add to archive.

Have a look :

Step6) Now when you will click on Add to archive a new window will open, its Winrar application. In the right side in General tab put a tick on Create SFX Archive

Step7) Now go to Advance tab at the top and click on SFX Options.

In the Set Up Program in Run After Extraction enter the name of the file along with the extension that your copied in Step4 i.e setup.exe

Step8) Do not press OK yet, there is a job left. In the top bar click on Modes and put a tick on Unpack to temporary folder and also check on Hide All and now press OK to close SFX Options window and press OK again to close Winrar window.

Step9) When you will click OK second time, Winrar will create a file and this is your portable application.
The portable software will look something like this :

Congrats !! You have successfully created a portable application within no time.
I have tried other methods also to create portable softwares but I like this one as its simple and fast.

Do send your feedback and comments !

How To Make Your Own Run Commands : Must See

Today I was just playing with Windows XP Registry Editor and suddenly I found a way to make our own Run Commands.
Before moving further I feel a need to tell you what are Run Commands. As we know that when we will type IEXPLORE.EXE in the RUN, Internet Explorer will execute, in the same way when we will type pinball.exe and hit enter, Pinball game will execute. In the above two examples IEXPLORE.EXE and pinball.exe are the Run Commands that we use as a shortcut to execute desired programs.
Today I am going to tell you that how you can create your own Run Commands to open any program you want.
Let's start :

Below is a step by step procedure :
1) Open Start Menu and click on RUN.
2) Now type regedit and hit Enter. (regedit means Registry Editor)
3) Now navigate to the following path :
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE >> SOFTWARE >> Microsoft >> Windows >> CurrentVersion >> App Paths
Note : To explain you clearly, I take an example to make a Run Command to openAdobe Photoshop.
4) Now right click on App Paths and select New >> Key and name is asGagan.exe

5) Now highlight Gagan.exe and have a look at the right hand side panel. You will see a String Value named default. Double click on it and in the value data field enter the path of the program that you want you want to execute. As an example I entered C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS3\Photoshop.exe as I want to open Adobe Photoshop.

You can enter the path of any executable file you want.
6) Now right click on right hand side panel and select New >> String Value and name is as Path.

7) Double click on Path and enter the path of the folder where the executable file is and put a semicolon at the end of the path. In my case it is C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS3;

8) Now click OK and close Registry Editor.
Restart your PC and in the RUN type Gagan.exe and hit enter. Hitting enter will result in opening in Adobe Photoshop.

In this way you can create your own Run Commands by naming key from Gagan.exe to any text you want.

Microsoft Office 365

Microsoft Office 365 is a commercial software plus services offer from Microsoft Corporation that includes the Microsoft Office suite of desktop applications plus hosted versions of Microsoft's Server products (including Exchange Server, SharePoint Server, and Lync Server) delivered and accessed over the Internet. Also considered the next version of Business Productivity Online Services(BPOS),Office 365 is currently in beta with general release expected in 2011.

Products :-

Microsoft Exchange Online

Built on the same technology as Exchange Server 2010, Microsoft Exchange Online provides email and personal information management capabilities such as calendaring, contact lists, and task lists. It also includes features such as voicemail delivered to the inbox, built-in anti-spam and anti-virus protection, built-in archiving, Conversation View, and MailTips. It can be accessed using Microsoft Office Outlook on the desktop, Outlook Web App in Web browsers, and Outlook Mobile on certain mobile devices. Exchange ActiveSync provides mobile connectivity to Exchange services across a variety of mobile devices and mobile email applications.

Microsoft SharePoint Online

Microsoft SharePoint Online enables people to manage, share, and collaborate on documents using a variety of internal and external sites including My Sites, Team Sites, Intranet Sites, and Extranet Sites. It can also be used to create public-facing Web sites.

Microsoft Lync Online

Microsoft Lync Online provides communications capabilities including presence information, instant messaging, PC-to-PC audio/video calling and online meetings that can include PC audio, video and web conferencing as well as application sharing, whiteboards, and other collaboration tools. Lync Online capabilities are accessed through the Lync client. Lync Online also supports presence information and click-to-communicate capabilities inside Microsoft Office applications.

Office Professional Plus

Microsoft Office Professional Plus in Office 365 provides the same client software as the Office Professional Plus product available through Microsoft Volume Licensing, with the exception that the Office 365 version lacks Business Contact Manager. Office Professional Plus in Office 365 provides the option of month-to-month, per-user licensing. It can be installed by users from Microsoft Online Services or from a server hosted by the subscribing organization. It is activated using the same Microsoft Online Services ID that users employ to sign in to Office 365 and the license is renewed on a 30-day cycle. The advantage of this is that organizations can exactly match the number of licenses they pay for with the number of users who need them. Office Professional Plus in Office 365 also includes Office Web Apps.

Office Web Apps

Office Web Apps are browser-based versions of Excel, Word, and PowerPoint that enable viewing and lightweight editing of Office documents in Web browsers while preserving the formatting of the original documents.

Plans :-

Office 365 is offered in a number of different plans designed for different needs and market segments. These include:

  • Office 365 for enterprise: Designed for businesses with internal or partner-supported IT staff and resources. Add on plans are available for information workers with dedicated PCs and kiosk workers (such as baristas or physicians) who share a PC and need only Web-based access.
  • Office 365 for small business: Designed for businesses without dedicated IT staff or resources.
  • Office 365 for education: Designed for schools and a replacement for the Office Live@edu service.

Microsoft has said that Office 365 will receive updates on a 90-day cycle. It has also mentioned that Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online will be available as an option with Office 365 starting sometime in 2011, as will Windows Intune, a tool for monitoring and optimizing PCs.

How it works ??

Google Apps V/s Office 365 :-

Microsoft is trying to combat Google with new cloud computing packages incorporating all of its productivity software, but is stopping a bit short of going "all-in."

Microsoft announced that it will package its cloud-based office services known as "Office 365" and offer a variety of subscription packages for small businesses and enterprises alike. But Microsoft is still offering only a limited Web-based version of Microsoft Office.

Google Apps vs. Microsoft Office

Office 365 "brings together Microsoft Office, SharePoint Online, Exchange Online and Lync Online in an always-up-to-date cloud service," Microsoft said. Office 365 will be available shortly in a limited beta program and widely available sometime in 2011.

Customers will be able to get all of their software through subscription-based pricing, but the full version of Office will still require a desktop installation.

Microsoft's only cloud-based version of Office is the Office Web Apps service. While free to consumers, for business use Office Web Apps has to be deployed on a SharePoint server and Microsoft recommends it only as an "online companion" to Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote. The cloud-based version of Office is just for "light editing" and sharing of documents but little more than that, according to Microsoft.

This kind of support lets Google argue that Google Apps is the superior option for customers with small IT departments, since Google offers all of its tools online without requiring installation of on-premise software.

But even with today's announcement, Microsoft did not put everything into the cloud. The business version of Office, Microsoft Office Professional Plus, will remain a desktop-only offering, although it will be integrated with Microsoft's cloud services.

"Office 365 for enterprises … includes the option to get Microsoft Office Professional Plus desktop software on a pay-as-you-go basis, for the first time ever," Microsoft said. "For $24 … per user, per month, organizations can get Office Professional Plus along with e-mail, voicemail, enterprise social networking, instant messaging, Web portals, extranets, voice conferencing and video conferencing, web conferencing, 24x7 phone support, on-premises licenses, and more."

Microsoft therefore seems to be sticking to its strategy of selling a combination of desktop software and cloud services, rather than offering everything online that Microsoft is "all-in" for the cloud"Office Web Apps are still the only Web-based productivity version of Office software."

Microsoft didn't mention Google by name in an announcement telecast, but did acknowledge the existence of competitors.

"We think we can differentiate from our competitors, particularly competitors from the consumer space, by making sure our data centers are incredibly secure and reliable," said Chris Capossela, senior vice president of Microsoft's Office division.

Although Office 365 seems to be mainly a repackaging of previously available cloud services, the way the services are packaged and priced may lure in some customers. Office 365 will leverage the 2010 versions of Exchange and SharePoint, whereas today most Microsoft cloud customers have to use the 2007 version. Office 365 "brings more complete versions of Exchange, SharePoint and Lync and a new platform with single sign in, federated identity, scripting and more," Microsoft said.

For home workers and small businesses of up to 25 to 50 users, Microsoft will charge $6 per user per month for Office Web Apps, Exchange Online (with antivirus), SharePoint Online, Lync Online, the option to create an external Web site, and community support. The small business version will give smartphone owners mobile access to e-mail, documents, contacts and calendar.

The enterprise versions, meanwhile, will cost anywhere from $2 to $24 per user per month and include single sign-on capabilities through Active Directory, antivirus software, IM and presence, video conferencing and audioconferencing, intranets and extranets for team sites, and access to Office Web Apps and the desktop-based Office Professional Plus.

Existing customers of BPOS (Business Productivity Online Suite), which includes Exchange Online and SharePoint Online, will be able to receive some of the advantages of Office 365 for the same price they pay today, about $10 per user per month.

Access to Office Professional Plus desktop software ups the price to $24. The smallest price point, $2 per user per month, includes only basic e- mail.

Remote operating system detection

Remote operating system detection - PANKS-HACK Remote operating system detection - PANKS-HACK Remote operating system detection - PANKS-HACK Remote operating system detection - PANKS-HACK Remote operating system detection - PANKS-HACK Remote operating system detection - PANKS-HACK Remote operating system detection - PANKS-HACK Remote operating system detection - PANKS-HACK Remote operating system detection - PANKS-HACK

Now a days we invite the so called victim to a webpage/blog
and with the help of a free web traker servive get all his details
as in browser/operating system and other details
but still i would like to share the traditional method as well
Detecting OS (operating system) is another most important step towards hacking into a system. We can even say that after tracing the IP of the system it is the most prior thing that should be done to get the root on a system cause without having knowledge about the OS running by the target system you cannot execute any system commands on the target system and thus your mission wont be accomplished. In here I have figure out the basics of detecting OS remotely without having physical access to the system. There are various method of detecting OS like by trace routing the victim’s IP , by pinging the IP , by using telnet and also by using a terminal. But from my research I have concluded that detecting OS through ping or tracerout is the most simplest but effective way of determining the operating system running in the remote computer without having physical access to the system. Since my aim of writing articles is to make things clear for beginners and intermediate so I will explain remote os detecting through ping method which is very easy to understand even for peoples totally new to computers.. yeah yeah.. I know you call them newbies..right ?? J J J

REMOTE OS DETECTION USING PING METHOD
What is PING and what is its utility ?

Ping is an MSDOS utility provided for windows version of DOS and for Unix and operating systems having UNIX as the core kernel. It runs in dos box in windows and directly in UNIX platform. In this manual I will give more stress on the MSDOS version of ping.
Ping is an utility used for sending and receiving packets of data to a target system using its IP and thus from the outputs you can figure out many information about the target system.
In remote os detection we are mainly concerned with the TTL values of the received data packets.

Note: When you send or receive a file over the internet it is not send at once. Instead it is broken down at the source system and these broken fragments of data know as data packets are send through the internet and these data packets are gathered together by the target system according to an algorithm constructed by the source system.
For example if I send a picture of size 400 KB to my girl friend (hey girls out there remember I don’t yet have a gf in reality) then what actually happens is that my system breaks the data into data packets, say the file of 400 KB has been broken down into 4 data packets each having a size of 100 KB and having a name. These data packets are assigned a code known as the TTL value of the data packets by my operating system. Then these data packets are gathered and the original file is formed from these data packets at the target system.

Example:
C:\windows>ping/?
Usage: ping [-t] [-a] [-n count] [-l size] [-f] [-i TTL] [-v TOS]
[-r count] [-s count] [[-j host-list] | [-k host-list]]
[-w timeout] target_name
Options:
-t Ping the specified host until stopped.
To see statistics and continue - type Control-Break;
-a Resolve addresses to hostnames.
-n count Number of echo requests to send.
-l size Send buffer size.
-f Set Don't Fragment flag in packet.
-i TTL Time To Live.
-v TOS Type Of Service.
-r count Record route for count hops.
-s count Timestamp for count hops.
-j host-list Loose source route along host-list.
-k host-list Strict source route along host-list.
-w timeout Timeout in milliseconds to wait for each reply.
there are various switches available for ping. Above I have given a list of all the switches available in the DOS version of ping. Using the –t switch you can continuously ping a target until it is crashed down. I am sure you are probably wondering how will it crash down the remote system. The answer is quite simple. If you ping the remote system continuously then what happens is that slowly the RAM of the target system is overloaded with these stack data and compels the system to restart or crashes it. You can also use the –l switch to specify the amount of data packet to be send at a time.
But in this article I am not concerned with crashing down a remote system cause its not that easy as it seems to be, there are many other tricks for it and its not possible to crash down a system of present technology just by simple ping. I am concerned with the TTL values of the output that you will get after pinging a system. You can use –n switch with ping to specify the number of echo (ie data packets) to be send to the target system. The default number is 4.
Example:
C:\windows> ping –n 10 127.0.0.1
This command will ping 127.0.0.1 with 10 packets of data and after that will give you an output.
Now I think its time for a real example which I have executed on my system.
C:\windows>ping 127.0.0.1
Pinging 127.0.0.1 with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 127.0.0.1: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128
Reply from 127.0.0.1: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128
Reply from 127.0.0.1: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128
Reply from 127.0.0.1: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128

(or check http://members.cox.net/~ndav1/self_published/TTL_values.html)

Ping statistics for 127.0.0.1:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 0ms, Maximum = 0ms, Average = 0ms
Here I have pinged the IP 127.0.0.1 (offline ip of any system) with default ping. Here I am getting TTL value as 128. This is the thing what we need for remote os detection.
What is TTL value ?

TTL value is nothing but a simple code assigned to the out going data packets by the operating system of a computer. The TTL value assigned to the out going data packets depends on the operating system and it is the same for a particular operating system. As for example if you ping a system running windows 98 or earlier versions of windows NT with service packs (I don’t know exactly about the TTL values of recent versions of Windows NT but from my research I think it’s the same as previous versions cause the TTL value even in Windows XP is 128) you will get the TTL value as 128, thus from this TTL value you can easily say that the target system is running Microsoft Windows.

TTL values of commonly used Operating Systems

OS VERSION PLATFORM TTL
Windows 9x/NT Intel 32
Windows 9x/NT Intel 128
Windows 2000 Intel 128
DigitalUnix 4.0 Alpha 60
Unisys x Mainframe 64
Linux 2.2.x Intel 64
FTX(UNIX) 3.3 STRATUS 64
SCO R5 Compaq 64
Netware 4.11 Intel 128
AIX 4.3.x IBM/RS6000 60
AIX 4.2.x IBM/RS6000 60
Cisco 11.2 7507 60
Cisco 12.0 2514 255
IRIX 6.x SGI 60
FreeBSD 3.x Intel 64
OpenBSD 2.x Intel 64
Solaris 8 Intel/Sparc 64
Solaris 2.x Intel/Sparc 255
Well these are not all. There are many more TTL values of many other operating systems. But generally most systems lies within this list.
Now lets try this manual practically and find out the operating system running by the IP 202.178.64.19.
C:\windows>ping 202.178.64.19
Pinging 202.178.64.19 with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 202.178.64.19: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128
Reply from 202.178.64.19: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128
Reply from 202.178.64.19: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128
Reply from 202.178.64.19: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128
Ping statistics for 202.178.64.19:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 0ms, Maximum = 0ms, Average = 0ms
Well from the output you can figure out many informations. First 4 packets of data each of 32 bytes has been send to 202.178.64.19. In response the target system has responded with data packets of TTL value as 128.
Now we can easily say that the system 202.178.64.19 is running windows.

ERROR CORRECTION IN SOME CASES

There is a possibility of error in TTL values that you receive. Even though the source system send a TTL value of 128 you may receive the TTL value as 120. Well nothing to worry cause its due to the fact that routers reduce the TTL value by 1.
Don’t worry I’ll explain and made things much clearer for you.
It’s a fact that some times routers may reduce the TTL value assigned to the data packets by the source OS by 1.
In that case you have to find out how many routers are there in between your system and the target system and then simply add the number of routers to the received TTL values and you will get the original TTL value.
To find out how many routers there are in between your system and the target system just perform a normal and simple tracert to that IP.
For more information about tracing an IP read my article ‘TRACING IP” in
After tracing the IP using tracert tool of dos suppose you find that there are 10 routers between you and the target system then just simply add 10 to the TTL value that you have received and you will get the original TTL value.
And once you get the original TTL value then its as simple as changing girl friend to find out the operating system running by the remote computer. Just match the TTL value with the above chart and you will find out the operating system info.

System information

system up time only for xp professional edition
It boasts how long it can stay up. Whereas previous
versions of Windows were coy about how long they went
between boots, XP is positively proud of its stamina.
Go to the Command Prompt in the Accessories menu from
the All Programs start button option, and then type
'systeminfo'. The computer will produce a lot of
useful info, including the uptime. If you want to keep
these, type 'systeminfo > info.txt'. This creates a
file called info.txt you can look at later with
Notepad. (Professional Edition only).
lock pc just by double clicking mouse

You can lock your XP workstation with two clicks of
the mouse. Create a new shortcut on your desktop using
a right mouse click, and enter 'rundll32.exe
user32.dll,LockWorkStation' in the location field.
Give the shortcut a name you like. That's it -- just
double click on it and your computer will be locked.
And if that's not easy enough, Windows key + L will do
the same.
SPEED UP UR ACROBAT READER (ALMOST LIKE NOTEPAD)

Do u get irritated when acrobat reader takes 5/10 seconds to load when you want to open a pdf document. There is a way to speed up the loading.
1. Go to the installation folder of acrobat reader
(C:\program files\adobe\acrobat\reader\.. whatever)
2. Move all the files and folders from the "plugins" directory to the "Optional" directory. (I repeat.. cut and paste the files NOT copy & paste).
Also make sure that acrobat reader is not open else it will lock the files and not allow you to move the files).
Now your acrobat reader will load very fast
and almost as good as notepad..
Remove Stored username and Passwords !

Remove the Username and picture from Windows XP New Start Menu

The User account picture can be removed by turning off the Welcome Screen. Or, by switching to Windows Classic theme. Follow the method described in this article if you want to remove the username and picture from the Start Menu, without disabling the Welcome Screen and Windows XP Theme.
For those who want to remove the user name and user account picture from Start Menu, in order to have a blank blue panel at the top, try this:
Start Windows Explorer and go to this folder:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\User Account Pictures

From that folder, rename the BMP file which corresponds to your user account.

( For example, if your username is Robert, rename Robert.bmp to old_Robert.bmp )
Next, rename the following folder:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\User Account Pictures\Default Pictures
to something else, say...
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\User Account Pictures\No_Default Pictures
To remove the user name, follow these steps
Start regedit.exe and navigate to the this key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft\ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Policies \ Explorer
In the right-pane, set NoUserNameInStartMenu value-data to 1
Close Regedit.exe and restart Windows.

You'll end up with a blue space at the top of the Start Menu.
To get back the username and the picture, reverse the above procedure.

For the New Start Menu, Windows XP looks for the <username>.bmp file in the folder
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\User Account Pictures
If the file is not found, it takes a picture from the "Default Pictures" sub-folder. By renaming the <username>.bmp and the "Default Pictures" folder, you're giving no chance for Windows to fetch an image for the Start Menu
~ Cheers ~.

number i.e Q33N... Increase the Font Size to 72, Change the Font to

.
log trick !! make ur Notepad a diary !!

Sometimes we want to insert current data and time, whenever we open the file in the notepad. If you are a lazy person like me, who don’t like to press F5 whenever you open a notepad. Then here is a trick to avoid this. Just add a .LOG in the first line of your text file and close it.
Whenever you open the file with that text in the first line in the notepad, it will insert the current date and time at the end of the file. You can start entering your text after that.
WHY?

The reason this happens:
In notepad, any other 4-3-3-5 letter word combo will have the same results.
It is all to do with a limitation in Windows. Text files containing Unicode UTF-16-encoded Unicode are supposed to start with a "Byte-Order Mark" (BOM), which is a two-byte flag that tells a reader how the following UTF-16 data is encoded.

1) You are saving to 8-bit Extended ASCII (Look at the Save As / Encoding format)
2) You are reading from 16-bit UNICODE (You guessed it, look at the Save As / Encoding format)
This is why the 18 8-bit characters are being displayed as 9 (obviously not supported by your codepage) 16-bit UNICODE characters
~ cheers ~
SPEED UP MENU DISPLAY.!!

When using the start menu the you will notice a delay between different tiers of the menu hierarchy. For the fastest computer experience possible I recommend changing this value to zero. This will allow the different tiers to appear instantly.
Start Regedit. If you are unfamiliar with regedit please refer to our FAQ on how to get started.
Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop
Select MenuShowDelay from the list on the right.
Right on it and select Modify.
Change the value to 0.
Reboot your computer.

CLICKING * .AVI FILES ON EXPLORER CAUSING 100% CPU USAGE.!!

Well windows seem to have a REALLY big problem when it comes to reading AVI files. It seems that when you click on an AVI file in explorer, it'll try to read the entire AVI file to determine the width, height, etc. of the AVI file (this is displayed in the Properties window). Now the problem with Windows is that if you have a broken/not fully downloaded AVI file that doesnt contain this info, Windows will scan the entire AVI file trying to figure out all these properties which in the process will probably cause 100% CPU usage and heavy memory usage. To solve this problem all you have to do is the following:
1. Open up regedit
2. Goto HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations\.avi\shellex\PropertyHandler
3. Delete the "Default" value which should be "{87D62D94-71B3-4b9a-9489-5FE6850DC73E}"
Voila! Please not that this will no longer provide you with the windows properties displaying the AVI file information such as width, height, bitrate etc. But its a small price to pay for saving you resources.
NOTE: Please use caution when using regedit. Improper usage may cause windows to behave imcorrectly. Also, I cannot be held resposible. Backup your registry first.
CD ROM STOPS AUTOPLAYING/AUTORUN.!!

And the AutoPlay Tab has disappeared in My Computer, Devices With Removable Storage, Right Click on CDROM, Properties.
Solution: The service: "Shell Hardware Detection" has been set to Manual or Disabled. Go to Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services. Return this service to "Automatic
".

How to make your Desktop Icons Transparent

Go to Control Panel > System, > Advanced > Performance area > Settings button Visual Effects tab "Use drop shadows for icon labels on the Desktop"
DISPLAY MESSAGE ON STARTUP.

Start regedit, if you are unfamiliar with regedit please see our FAQ.
Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
Modify the key legalnoticecaption with what you want to name the window.
Modify the key legalnoticetext with what you want the window to say. Restart
AUTO DELETE TEMPORARY FOLDER.!!

ll what i prefer is %temp% " without quotes.. at Start -> Run..
this opens ur temp folder n den u cal erase it neatly// still try dis one too..

First go into gpedit.msc
Next select -> Computer Configuration/Administrative Templates/Windows Components/Terminal Services/Temporary Folder
Then right click "Do Not Delete Temp Folder Upon Exit"
Go to properties and hit disable. Now next time Windows puts a temp file in that folder it will automatically delete it when its done! Note from Forum Admin: Remember, GPEDIT (Group Policy Editor) is only available in XP Pro.

All Aspects of Surface Computing

-: History of Surface Computing :-

2001: Microsoft researchers Steven Bathiche and Andy Wilson developed idea of an interactive table.

2003: 1st prototype was presented to Bill Gates for approval.

2007: Interactive table top device was built that seamlessly brings both the physical and virtual worlds into one.

The table is built with wireless devices using Bluetooth and WI-FI technology (RIFD-Radio Frequency Identification will come later)

Designed to match up with wireless objects placed on the table

Multi-touch screen is used like the technology behind the iPhone (no keyboard or mouse needed)

What is surface computing?

A form of computing that offers “a natural way of interacting with information,” rather than the “traditional user interface.”

Microsoft Surface  is a Multi-touch product from Microsoft which is developed as a software and hardware combination technology that allows a user, or multiple users, to manipulate digital content by the use of gesture recognition.

image image

-: FEATURES :-

1) Direct Interaction: The ability to "grab" digital information with hands - interacting with touch/gesture, not with a mouse or keyboard.

2) Multi–Touch:  The ability to recognize multiple points of contact at the same time, not just one (Ex. One finger, like with most touch screens), but dozens.

3) Multi–User: The Surface’s screen is horizontal, allowing many people to come together around it and experience a “collaborative, face–to–face computing experience”.

4) Object Recognition: Physical objects can be placed on the Surface’s screen to “trigger different types of digital responses” (Ex. cell phones, cameras, & glasses of wine).

How is the Surface used?

• Wireless! Transfer pictures from camera to Surface and cell phone. “Drag and drop virtual content to physical objects.”

• Digital interactive painting

• At a phone store? Place cell phone on the Surface and get information, compare different phones, select service plan, accessories, and pay at table!

image

•At a restaurant? View menu, order drinks and meal at your table! It’s a durable surface you can eat off of (withstands spills, etc.). Need separate checks? Split bill at and pay at table.

• Play games and use the Internet.

• Watch television

• Jukebox! Browse music, make play lists.

•Billboard for advertising

• Maps

HOW DOES IT WORK ?

• The Surface is not a touch-sensitive screen device… The screen itself is not electronic.

• The Surface uses multiple infrared cameras beneath the screen/table top to sense objects, physical touch, etc.

• The Surface “recognizes objects based on shape or by using domino-style identification (domino tags) on the bottom of the objects.”

• This information is processed and displayed using “rear projection”.

image

(1)Screen: Diffuser : ”Multi-Touch" screen. Can process multiple inputs and recognize objects by their shapes or coded "domino" tags.

(2) Infrared sensor: The ”machine vision" is aimed at the screen. Once an object touches the tabletop -> the light reflects back and is picked up by infrared cameras.

(3) CPU: Uses similar components as current desktop computers -> Core 2 Duo processor, 2GB of RAM and a 256MB graphics card. Wireless communication -> Wi-Fi and Bluetooth antennas (future -> RFID). Operating system -> modified version of Microsoft Vista.

(4) Projector: Uses a DLP light engine ( rear-projection HDTVs).

Who’s using the Surface today?

• Currently only commercially available and being used in the retail, hospitality, automotive, banking and healthcare industries.

• Current customers are AT&T, T-Mobile, the Rio All Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Sheraton Hotels, Disney Innovations House in California, Hotel 1000 in Seattle, Harrah’s Entertainment, and Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide.

Problems?

$$$$$$$ Surface machines cost between $5,000 and $10,000, but Microsoft hopes that as prices fall, the machine will find it’s way into the consumer’s household. For it to be able to catch on with “mainstream consumers,” the price will definitely need to come down.

5 Ways to Turn YouTube into Your Personal DJ

In one of our latest polls, we asked you what your favourite music streaming service is. A lot of those services are great, and I personally use a few of them myself. But sometimes there’s a song, here or there, that I can’t find. The one place I know that I’m always going to find them is on YouTube.

While you can create playlists within YouTube itself, there are some slick apps that make the process much easier, and do it with style. If you want to use YouTube as a way to listen to free music, create playlists, and keep up with your favourite singers’ latest hits; check out some of the websites and apps listed below.

StreamDrag

StreamDrag allows you to create playlists of music that is available on YouTube.

youtube listen to free music

You don’t have to register for an account to use the site, but the advantage of signing up for a free account is being able to save multiple playlists. Search for your favorite songs and add them to your playlist. Once you’ve got your playlist up and running, you can share specific songs with your friends on Facebook, Twitter, StumbleUpon and Delicious.

MuzakBox

MuzakBox takes a simpler approach by essentially creating the playlist for you. You choose the artist you want to listen to and MuzakBox does the rest – pulling all of the songs from YouTube into one list. Of course if you’re the kind of person who gets bored listening to one artist for too long, MuzakBox isn’t the ideal choice for you.

YouTube Music Player addon

Firefox users can benefit from the YouTube Music Player Addon. Once installed, a new menu item will be available in your browser where you can access all of the YouTube Music Player controls, from searching, to add songs to your playlist, to playing them. Accessing these controls opens up the addon in a sidebar in your browser. Search for songs and add them by right-clicking the results.

Once a song has been added to your playlist it is highlighted in red. YouTube Music Player is jam-packed with features, allowing you to create and save multiple lists, preview videos before adding them to your list by hovering over the specific search result, and giving you full control of playback with shuffle and repeat settings. Playback settings can be accessed from the Firefox menu, from the status bar, or from the small window that opens displaying the video itself.

JukeFly

JukeFly gives you a whole lot more than just songs from YouTube.Searching for any given artist results in a full discography, an artist bio, and the site even displays the lyrics of songs as they play.

For all its bells and whistles, however, like MuzakBox, you can only listen to one artist at a time. While signing up for a free account allows you to create playlists – that doesn’t mean playlists of YouTube videos, but rather from your local music library which you can stream from anywhere using their Windows software. Like StreamDrag, JukeFly allows you to share your favourite songs directly with your Facebook and Twitter friends, or via email.

YouTube jockey

YouTube Jockey is a slick Adobe Air app which allows you to create one playlist at a time. Search for and add songs to your playlist, and then you can choose whether or not to display the video as it plays. Don’t worry – there is nothing you have to do to save your playlist – it will automatically be saved for you to return to when you open the app. While it’s great to have a cross-platform desktop app that allows you to easily create YouTube, being able to create and save multiple playlists would make it even better.
